Talking about embroidery
Designing an Embroidery
Designing an embroidery is a process that involves a lot of steps and considerations. I will share mine with you. Most times I just start with a concept and an image that represents it. Then follows selecting the color palette and materials.
Discovering Goldwork
Goldwork has typically been used by many cultures and faiths on ecclesiastical, military, and royal attire to denote status and power. Today this technique is much more accessible than it was in the past, when hand embroidery with metallic threads was reserved only for the wealthy due to the high cost of materials.
Color Palette
How to pick the perfect color palette for a project is always a concern of my students. The first thing to take into account is of course the project I have to tackle and what I have in mind for it.
The Fabric
The selection and preparation of the fabric is extremely important to achieve the final result that we imagine for our embroidery.
Let’s talk about transfers
How to transfer the design to the fabric before starting to embroider is one of the first decisions we must make and a very important one without a doubt. In this post I will talk about all the techniques that I know and the considerations that I would make to use one or the other, taking into account the various factors that could intervene in this decision.
